GREEK AND LATIN ROOTS

Definition

A wide variety of words can be made by adding a prefix or suffix to the beginning or end of a Greek or Latin root. Let’s take the word Aquarium for example. Aqua is a common Latin prefix used in everyday language that denotes water. Paired with another Latin suffix, rium which signifies a place or location, aquarium literally means a place or location of water, i.e. fish tanks. Aquafina, the popular water bottle company, stems from Latin roots also. The suffix fina originates from finis, which means boundary. Aquafina is a boundary (bottle) of water.
