DEFINITION:
Adding two fractions together to either make a new fraction or a whole number.

HOW TO
There are 3 Simple Steps to add fractions: Step 1: Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the same. Step 2: Add the top numbers (the numerators), put the answer over the denominator. Step 3: Simplify the fraction (if needed).

Everyday Use:
Adding fractions are used every day when adding two portions.
Example. Adding ¼ of a pizza to a pizza box that already has ½ a pizza.

Lyrics

Yep!

(Repeat)

The numbers in the top (you got the numerator)

The numbers in the bottom (and the denominator)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)

We’re adding fractions

The numbers in the top (you got the numerator)

The numbers in the bottom (and the denominator)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)

We’re adding fractions (with what)

With satisfaction

Yep

Let’s take two over eight and three over eight (three over eight)

Add a cross in the middle to add something great (add something great)

Look at the denominator tell me are they the same (are they the same?)

We have an eight and an eight, now let’s aim (for the numerator)

What’s the answer, what could it be? (what could it be?)

Put your hand ups and let’s count and see

Put two fingers up, add three more

Now count your fingers, to see what’s in store.

One, two, three, four, five.

Put it above the line after the equal sign

Bring over the denominator because it is the same.

Five over eight is the answer and that’s game.

The numbers in the top (you got the numerator)

The numbers in the bottom (and the denominator)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)

We’re adding fractions (we’re adding what)
