Word problems tell you how to solve them  

Problem solving show you how to do it 

First you got to read the problem entirely  

Then you find out what the key words mean (repeat 2x) 

 

First step you read the problem carefully  

Don’t jump to any conclusions make sure you understand fully 

Second step you identify and list the facts  

Look up all the key information and list that 

The third step you figure out exactly what they asking you 

Sometimes the facts given is something you convert em to 

Step four eliminate excess information 

So facts given won’t even help you find the solution 

The fifth step pay attention to units of measurement  

If dimensions are given in inches and the answer have to be in square feet  

You may have to convert it or you may have to use  

Table of conversion 

Step six draw a diagram sometimes a diagram will help  

You visualize an actual problem 

The seventh step you find or develop a formula 

The eighth step you use your reference and then you check it
