Sign inDEFINITION:
An intensive pronoun gives emphasizes to a noun or pronoun by taking the place of the word that existed before to avoid repeating the same word. In English intensive pronouns are formed by adding -self or -selves to the root pronoun. Examples: We planned it all by ourselves. The officer himself inspected the crime. The only intensive pronouns in today’s English are the following: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves
HOW TO:
Intensive pronouns are not necessary, but they serve the vital function of making your writing more interesting as well as more meaningful. Use them conservatively to guarantee that the emphasis they provide isn’t lost. Examples of Intensive Pronouns In the following examples, the intensive pronouns have been italicized for ease of identification. Mark wondered aloud whether he himself was the only one wanting to attend the meeting. Lucy knew that she herself could accomplish anything she put her mind to. You yourself can easily forget to be grateful. The team knew that they themselves were responsible for giving their best. We ourselves are the ones who make the world a different place.
Everyday Use:
Intensive Pronouns are used in every day conversation, reading and writing.
