Acid: a chemical substance that neutralizes alkalis, dissolves some metals, and turns litmus red; typically, a corrosive or sour-tasting liquid of this kind.
Base: bases describe solutions with a pH greater than seven , and there is a range of how basic a solution can be. A base is the opposite of an acid.

Acids and Bases
S1
La, la, la, la, la, la , la
Welcome to chemistry one of the first lessons that’s taught
Is about acids, bases and salts
See cooking is a form of chemistry mama cooking that spaghetti
Homemade sauce took forever to be ready if it was salty
She would add water to neutralize it, and if it was to bitter
She would just go add sugar cooking Italian is one of her many talents
Experiments with seasoning there’s a perfect balance
For thousands of years people have known that vinegar lemon juice
Foods taste sour a 100 years ago it was discovered that these foods
They are that way because they’re all acids “acids”
If acid was a villain we’ll need a superhero I introduce you to Base
To balance out the place bases are substances that can react
With acids neutralize them and the result creates salt
Here’s an example, let’s say you’re stomach is aching loaded with gases
Let’s say it’s all the acids in order to calm it down you go and race
To the store by Rolaids or tums and that’s a base
Chew it up and swallow watch it get into the stomach and
Start to neutralize things instantly, you feel better huh? “yeah”
It’s not a mystery look a little closer and see its all chemistry
Is it an acid acid, is it a base base
The PH goes from 0-14 below 7 let’s be know that it’s an acid
Above 7 lets me know that it’s a base, hey!
Is it an acid acid, is it a base base
The PH goes from 0-14 the lower the number the stronger the acid is
The higher number the stronger the base
Okay, let’s talk about bases got a bitter taste
Used by many as clean up products to clean up places
Ammonia, baking soda, draynol and soap some bases mix with water
And they just can’t cope so they dissolve we call those bases
Alkalis one of them is Alka-Seltzer we use it all the time
What can we use to tell if it’s a base or an acid
Pieces of paper they call litmus it changes drastic
Put the paper in acid watch it turn red
Red paper in bases watch it turn blue
If it’s neutral like water paper stays the same
Mix it the game change two salts with different names
Salts are created when bases and acids collide
The name of the salt form depends on the metal inside
The bases are the acids used combine the two
Not complicated ima break it down for you now this is where most
Of you students go wrong it seems so confusing the names are so long
The name of salt has two parts like your first and last name
The first name comes from the metal that’s in the base
The last name comes from the acid that’s used to make it
Salt’s made from sulfate acid ends in sulfate
Salt’s made from hydrochloric acid ends in chloride
So, here’s an example to give you so you’ll be alright
Let’s say the metal and the base is totally hydroxide
Let’s say the acid is hydrochloric acid
The first name would be sodium the last name would be chloride
Put them together its Sodium Chloride let’s say the metal is sodium
Let’s say the acid is sulfur acid that’s sodium sulfate
Let’s say the metal is copper let’s say the acid is hydrochloric
That’s copper chloride
Is it an acid acid, is it a base base
The PH goes from 0-14 below 7 let’s be know that it’s an acid
Above 7 lets me know that it’s a base, hey!
Is it an acid acid, is it a base base
The PH goes from 0-14 the lower the number the stronger the acid is
The higher number the stronger the base, hey!
