Time Skit

Good morning class, welcome back it’s time to tell time

See the clock on the wall? Take a look

It has numbers and 3 lines that point to the numbers

1 through 12 around the clock

These pointing lines on the clock care called hands

Because they point to the numbers to let you know what time it is

The numbers on the clock are the hours

The marks in between the numbers on the clock are the minutes in the hours !

Now, back to the hands of the clock

The short hand is the hour hand, it tells you the hours

The long hand is the minute hand

And it tells you what the minutes are in the hour

The long minute hand will visit every number

And every mark in between the numbers to let you know the time

The third little hand that just keeps going around and around

Tick Tock, Tick Tock is called the second hand

It helps the hour hand and the minute hand keep up with the time on clock

It’s just job is to count… there are 60 seconds in a minute

And there are 60 minutes in an hour

Every time the second hand reaches the 12

A minute has gone by that’s 60 seconds

Every time the long minute hand circles the clock and makes it back to the 12 an hour has gone by

Now…whatever number the shorter hand is on tells you what time it is in the day

For example, you begin school every day at 8 o clock

So where do we put the hands on the clock?

You see the long minute hand on the 12?

And the short hour hand is where?

That’s it! On the 8

Now something very important…learn to count by 5’s

Go back and listen to your counting by 5’s song

It’s like knowing your 5 times tables why?

Because the numbers are minutes too

And the numbers are counted by 5 within the hour

So when you’re in class at 8 and the long minute hand leaves the 12

And is now on the 1…it’s now 8:05

When it gets to the 2… it’s now 8:10

Let me show you

We are going to count by 5 like the courting by 5 song

And we are going to start with the 1

As we go to the next number remember it’s counted by 5

So starting with the 1 I’m going to point to each number and tell you what it is counting by 5

Let’s start with 1… that’s 5, 10, and 15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,60!

And now were back at the 12 and what does that mean?

You guessed it! An hour has gone by (laughter)

I think you’re getting it one more thing

When you hear Am that’s lets you know the hours are during the day

At night you say pm, but back to the clock

Let’s try some more
