ABC ORDER
DEFINITION: A systematic way to organize a list of words. Words are organized by following the order of letters in the alphabet-beginning with the letter A and ending with the letter Z. HOW IT WORKS: In the English language, the alphabet begins with the letter A and ends with the letter Z. Words in alphabetical order are arranged in this manner: If we had the following words: 'sat', 'bat', 'mat', 'rat, 'cat', we would put them in order by starting with the word that begins with the letter 'A'. If there is not a word that begins with the letter 'A' we would go on the next letter in the alphabet 'B' and so on. Our list of words in alphabetical order looks like this: bat, cat, mat, rat, sat. HOW IT'S USED IN EVERYDAY LIFE: Throughout life, you will need to know the alphabet and alphabetical order to complete many tasks. Everyday tasks such as looking for a name in a telephone directory requires using alphabetical order to make the names easier to find.
